چکیده
Received for publication 12 July 1968. ashed in a muffle furnace at 600'C for at least three hours. Of the acid ammonium sulphate, 10 ml, and 30 ml of water are added to the ashed sample, and after warming to dissolve soluble material the contents are decanted with washing into a 50 ml centrifuge tube, the BaSO4 being washed into the tube as far as possible. The tube is centrifuged for 5 min, the supematant decanted off and the tube allowed to drain. If necessary the supernatant (plus washings) may be used for the analysis of soluble minerals such as calcium. Meanwhile 10 ml ofammonium EDTA and 3 ml TMAH are added to the silica beaker which is then warmed on a steam bath for 10 min to dissolve any remaining BaSO4. The contents of the beaker are transferred to the tube with washing, and the tube placed in a boiling water bath for about 10 min with occasional stirring. The solution is cooled, made up to 50 ml, and filtered (if necessary) before flame photometry which is carried out in the usual manner.

A new principle applied to the determination of calcium in biological materials by flame photometry.
The effect of magnesium sulphate in releasing calcium emission from interference by phosphate and sulphate has been investigated. Samples were diluted in 10 mM MgSO(4), 2 mM NaCl, giving final calcium concentrations of about 0.05 to 0.10 mM. In this diluent, galvanometer readings were proportional to calcium concentrations up to 0.4 mM. The magnesium sulphate released calcium emission from depr...
متن کاملThe determination of magnesium in biological materials by flame photometry.
A method is described for the measurement of magnesium in biological materials and has been applied to the Unicam flame spectrophotometer SP 900. Samples were diluted in 10 mM strontium ethylenedinitrolo tetraacetate (EDTASr), 10 mM potassium carbonate, giving final magnesium concentrations of about 0.1 to 0.2 mM. The EDTASr almost eliminated the depression of magnesium emission by interfering ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the total analytical error in the flame photometry method
Background and Objectives: For total analytical error, imprecision (SD) and bias, performance goals for laboratory tests have most often been developed. A total analytical error goal requires that the combination of errors from all sources (random and systematic errors) be within some acceptable limit. M...
متن کاملLarge bowel obstruction due to an impacted barolith--a delayed complication of a barium study.
Complications of barium sulphate studies abound in the literature but there are very few recorded instances of large bowel obstruction due to inspissated barium and faeces forming a 'barolith'. A patient who suffered this complication is reported.

The objective of this work is to verifying the consume of the minerals K, Na, Fe, Mg, P, S-SO4 (-2), B, N Total Kjedahl (NTK), NO3 (-)-N, and NH4 (+)-N in the production of bacterial cellulose by Acetobacter xylinum, according to the medium and the manner of cultivation. The fermentative process was in ripe and green coconut water. K and Na were determined by flame emission photometry, Mg and F...
